Hi,
I am trying to increase the width of each bar in a bar-line chart. I have found various people saying how to do it and the answer does work to some degree but not enough as my bars are still pretty skinny. How can I make them wider still?

The method I have seen an tried is simple. Highlight the bars in question then right click and select 'format data series' then just change "gap width" to the left until you get the desired bar width.

But the problem I have is the bar is still very skinny anyway. It did get a bit wider but not much. I have excel 2016 and the chart is a combination, bar - line chart. What else can I do to widen the bar?

thank you!

Excel Facts

Bring active cell back into view
Start at A1 and select to A9999 while writing a formula, you can't see A1 anymore. Press Ctrl+Backspace to bring active cell into view.
I found the solution elsewhere but am placing it here in case it helps someone else. I've been using excel for 20+ years and I didn't know this...

"I solved it. Because I was using dates that were 14 days apart, Excel only let me use 1/14th of the width of the column. I reformated the date series from dates to labels and now I have nice fat stacks "

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I searched everywhere for a solution to the width problem but only found the "gap width" answer. That doesn't solve the problem. But, once I changed the dates to text - voila! I had to type in the dates by hand, which is a pain, but thankfully my data list is fairly small.

Again, thank you!
