Cell reference in a formula

When I copy a basic formula down a COLUMN that refernces another cell, the formula will automatically replace the cell referenced for the one right beneath it (basic excel 101). I don't know of a way to copy a cell to the cell beneath it while referencing the next one in the ROW. Hopefully this makes sense to someone who can help. Thanks.

Excel Facts

Which came first: VisiCalc or Lotus 1-2-3?
Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston debuted VisiCalc in 1979 as a Visible Calculator. Lotus 1-2-3 debuted in the early 1980's, from Mitch Kapor.

Can you give a quick example of what you mean?

Sure. Cell A1 is "=B12". If I copy A1 to B1, I will get "=B13". I am wanting to copy A1 to B1 but get a "=C12" result. I hope this helps.

If I copy cell A1 (containing "=B12") to B1, I get the formula "=C12". I don't understand your problem. Can you clarify it for me?

Sorry. You're right. Typo. I meant "Cell A1 is "=B12". If I copy A1 to A2, I will get "=B13". I am wanting to copy A1 to A2 but get a "=C12" result." Again, sorry.

Phew, good thing. I thought I was losing it for a second.:smile:
Try this formula in A1 and copy to A2:

=INDIRECT("R12C"&ROW()+1,0)
