Hello,

I'm a new user on Excel 2024 and I'm having problem with cell formula,
let me explain

if I multiply 2 cell formated as number and both containing decimal number it's ok like 16 * 111 = 1776
if I multiply cell B1 containing the value 16 to cell E8 containing a formula =D8+1 the total = 1769

Thanks to everyone for helping.

Excel Facts

Remove leading & trailing spaces
Save as CSV to remove all leading and trailing spaces. It is faster than using TRIM().
Cell D8 refers to cell E8.
Where did you get that information? Neither picture shows that information as far as I can see.

@Jberg
I suspect the issue is a formatting one and that the number in E8 is not actually 111 but something more like 110.5.... with the cell formatted to show no decimal places so it will round the number to the nearest whole number. Or it could be B1 that is not actually 16 but slightly less. Or it could be both cells are not quite what they are showing.

Try formatting B1 and E8 and B8 as number with say 3 decimal places and see what they show.

I tried to replicate on excel the calculation table for baud rate on a pic16f690 from microchip
and it turn out the table they use roundup & rounddown at different section
so one line calculation is roundup and the line below could be rouddown or up.

so each row have to get a rounddown or roundup separate cell.
I'm better using my old calculator.

Thanks Peter.

Sounds like the issue with your Excel sheet above was a rounding/display issue then?

so each row have to get a rounddown or roundup separate cell.
It would seem to me that there is likely a logic to when to round up or round down, but I am not familiar with the calculation so without more information I could not offer a suggestion.

Hello Peter,
some industry use the rounddown/roundup to make easy to read
one thing I wasen't aware is with microchip datasheet they use both at random on the list
it would be easier to use only one rounding method.

it's like the banking system a penny is in fact 1.05523 something like that.
and to falicitate the reading they use the rounddown, as for the sale tax on receipt
they use either one or the other but never both on the same point of sale.

Thanks again Peter
have a good day.
