Hi,

I'm looking for a way to gradate the fill color of a cell according to 5 intervals of values listed in another cell. The intervals are 1, 3, 4 to 14, 15 and 25. These interval would translate to a color ranging from dark green to bright red.

I know conditional formatting can change the fill color of a cell using a formula but this can be done (as far as I know) only for 1, 2 or 3 colors. If a formula exists to change the fill color to a precise color (according to a code) I could use this method instead.

Let me know if conditional formatting or formulas can be used for this. Thanks in advance.

Excel Facts

Bring active cell back into view
Start at A1 and select to A9999 while writing a formula, you can't see A1 anymore. Press Ctrl+Backspace to bring active cell into view.
what version of Excel do you have?? 2007 & 2010 both will do an infinite amount of conditional formatting. if thats not the way you can go i can work up a code for you in VBA

I'm using 2010 and I know nothing about VBA.

So you're saying I could do a 3 color gradation using conditional formatting for 3 value intervals and use another conditional formatting for the same cells adding a 2 color gradation for the other intervals ?

I'll try that. Just for my personal knowledge, isn't there a formula that can tweak the fill color of a cell ?

Thanks

just keep in mind that the order is the key there are arrows to move the order up and down and it may take a little playing with it to get the order the way you like it
