I have a massive file with dozens of tabs and several hundred charts. Frequently, I will check to see what uses a cell before I delete it, but I keep running into this:

I will click the cell, select trace precedents, and it says it goes to a chart (plot area). But how do I figure out which chart it goes into? As mentioned, there are literally hundreds.. I am struggling to find the solution on the web, Please HELP!

1) click tab [Formulas]
2) select [trace Dependents]
3) select the cell you need to check
4) result show in the function bar

hope it helps

What you see is an arrow indicating cells on OTHER WORKSHEETS which point to cell B5. You can double-click the small table-like icon to open the Goto dialog which should contain a list of those references.

The Trace precedents and dependents options only looks at formulas in cells, it does not look at any other objects such as charts or pivot tables. I have a tool which is capable of doing that which has a free demo version to test: The Ultimate Excel Formula Auditing and Tracing Tool: RefTreeAnalyser
