For some reason I cannot change a colum of data date format. Somebody was working on this file and had the date format as 30/1/08 I want 1/30/08. I select the colum and I right click format cells. I pick the proper date format and nothing changes. Dont know what the issue is. Maybe he locked the column in some way? I appreicate any info. Using Excel 07.

Excel Facts

Repeat Last Command
Pressing F4 adds dollar signs when editing a formula. When not editing, F4 repeats last command.
I tried it on one cell and simply did a custom format of
mm/dd/yyyy

and it worked for me.

Did you just try one cell?
Also is sheet protected?

Rob,
To check protection go to Tools and click on Protection.

If it shows "Protect " it is not protected.

Select the column that houses the date.
Go to Text to Columns (Data > Text to columns)
In Step 1 choose Delimited
In Step 2 clear check marks beside all delimiters
In Step 3 choose Date: MDY
Click Finish
