Cannot select first item from combobox

I am not an Access programmer, but got this problem to fix. I have a form with a combobox filled with the months. When I select a month from the combobox, I can select any month but January, the first item listed in the combobox. When I click on the down-arrow to view the dropdown list, I noticed the January element has a line under, like it is separate from the rest of the list. I can hover my mouse over the January item, but when I click, nothing happens. When I try typing Jan in the box, I get an error message saying "The text you entered insn't an item in the list", but when I look at the combobox properties, the row source property contains "JAN";"FEB";"MAR";"APR";"MAY";"JUN";"JUL";"AUG";"SEP";"OCT";"NOV";"DEC"

How can I select the Jan item?

Is the comboboxes Column Heads property set to True?

If it is then 'JAN' is probably being treated as a header.

Norie has hit the nail on the head.
I was able to create the same problem using his advice.
I have never ever used that option.
