Cannot insert object

I'm trying to learn Excel VBA with the Safari Microsoft Excel VBA Programming for the Absolute Beginner, 3rd ed. for Excel 2007. But I have Excel 2010. From Excel, when I attempt to insert an object from the Insert>ActiveX Controls, as per the book's instructions, I get an error box that says "Cannot insert object". Why is this?

Your problem is related to the BROWN BANNER STATEMENT Above... The December 2014 Microsoft Office Updates caused the problem, not just for the Form Controls, BUT ALSO for the Active-X Controls. There is a fix already out just google on "December 2014 Microsoft Office Updates Fix" or the like... Hope that helps.... Jim
