Hi Guys,

I was trying to be a bit innovative and was thinking can we write any other scripting language like PHP,JSP other than VB Scripts in Excel Macros

Please guys advise me on this, whether we can write anyother scripts other than vb script in Excel macros.

Excel Facts

Get help while writing formula
Click the italics "fx" icon to the left of the formula bar to open the Functions Arguments dialog. Help is displayed for each argument.
Basically, No !
The way I understand it, you can only use what the Excel app uses.
Why would writing the macro in other languages be innovative....I would have thought it would cause complete and utter chaos !?!

You can use any language that supports COM and can reference the Excel object. So, any language that works with .Net would work. It won't be as simple as using VBA -- a version of Visual Basic that is the only language that is integrated with certain Office applications.

As I am using MAC and i want to establish a database connectivity through Excel Macros (MS Excel 2011), the code run fines in Windows Machine but when I try to run the same code in MAC its states that Activex Object library is missing. So therefore I was thinking if I could use any other scripting language other than VB, which might help to my cause.

Please suggest your valuable comments
