Can I group/ungroup columns that are not next to each other?

I would like to have the ability, even through a macro, to group multiple columns at once that are not next to each other. Any suggestions?
 

Excel Facts

Can you sort left to right?
To sort left-to-right, use the Sort dialog box. Click Options. Choose "Sort left to right"
