hello to you all -

This (may) be an easy question, but I seem not to be able to find the answer, so all help/pointers will be much appreciated, thanks!

Question: Is it possible to cal via a formula the hand-executed right-click: "filter by selected cell's value"?

I have one tab with a bunch of data, where the cells to be filtered are. I have another analysis tab where I'd simply like to create a formula that says: IF cell XX = "Y", then go to that other table and filter by (this) selected cell's value.

I'd enter a "Y", the formula would return TRUE, and the bunch of data would be filtered by the indicated value in the formula. I know how to write the IF, I just can't seem to find what Function to use, or if there is some other way required.

Thank you all very much!
