If I open Excel 2019 and check calculate options, it is Automatic.

I close the workbook (and Excel) and open another workbook. I check the calculate options and that's Manual.

Where is it saved so that it gets it changed to Manual? Because as far as I have understood, that's application settings and has really nothing to do with workbooks.

What is =ROMAN(40) in Excel?
The Roman numeral for 40 is XL. Bill "MrExcel" Jelen's 40th book was called MrExcel XL.
Formula recalculation options affect only a specific workbook. If manual recalculation is set for it, then when you open it, this parameter is saved. For other books there will be an automatic recalculation. That’s why you have automatic recalculation in one book and manual recalculation in the other.
