I have a set of numbers for a 5-year period. Based on how they have been declining over that period, I need to calculate a trend line that will show when the number will stabilise, i.e. reach a steady state.

Could anyone tell me how to do this?
Any and all help would be much appreciated!!

Hi,

Easiest would be to graph the data series and insert a trendline. Use that trendline equation to determine the asymptote.

You can also use some existing functions (LINEST, LOGEST) on your data or transformed data to get the equation of the trendline. Also, depending on what you need, VBA can be an option, as can Eric Desart's add-in, which uses Bezier curves to give a high accuracy solution (where LINEST and the others may not be quite as accurate).

Please share your data for more specific help.
