I am trying to figure out how to calculate ELR in Excel. My current formulas I'm working with do not seem to give me the results I'm looking for. My understanding is that in order to find the ELR you need to have two temperatures and two altitudes or height to work with. So if I have T1 (Temperature 1) at 40 degrees F and T2 at 10 degrees F and H1 at 6,000 feet and H2 at 2,000 feet the formula should be as follows: (T2-T1)/(H1-H2) with the result of -7.5 degrees F per 1,000 ft. However, when I am trying to figure this out with Celsius I am not coming up with the right answer. I understand Dry Adiabatic Rates and Saturated Adiabatic Rates in how they effect ELR but its the math that is perplexing me.

Thank you

Format cells as date
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).
What calculation are you doing for temperature in celsius, and what makes you think it's not the right answer?

I will have to locate the problem and post it when I have access to the formula. Basically, I am given the surface temperature and another temp at a higher altitude. What I am not given is the altitude (H2) for the other temp (T2), only just surface temp (T1) and surface elevation (H1).

Thank you
