Calculate the balance

I want to calculate the balance from two columns, the first is Money in and the calculation is =Sum(C3:C99)
The second is Money out and the calculation is Sum(D3:D99).I want to have the result in the column d
substracting the sums from column C and columns D , in order to get the current balance,but i cannot do that.
i have tried the folliwing
=Sum(C3:C99)- Sum(D3:D99
but it doesnt work.
Also i have tried
=Sum(C3:C99)-Sum(D3:D99)
But it also gives error
