Hi peeps,

I know this is probably a simple sum but, again, I'm tying myself up in knots.

I am trying to calculate the percentage from the result of one number taken from another in the same cell.

For example, 10 - 8 = 2. The percentage of 10 - 2 = 80%.

I know it's not right but am using, where A1 is 10 and B1 is 8:
Excel Formula:
=(A1-B1)/A1
which is giving me 20%, not 80%.

I can only get the correct percentage by adding in a column (C1) for the first part formula
Excel Formula:
=A1-B1
and then have the second part in a fourth column (D1)
Excel Formula:
=(A1-C1)/A1
but would like one formula (in C1) so I don't have to have that extra column - can it be done as one formula?

Hope this makes sense!

If A1 is the sum and B1 is part of the sum, the percentage is B1/A1. You can either format as a percentage or multiply it by 100 to make it a percentage.

I hope that helps,

Doug
