There is an odd bug in Office 365 - when you insert a map chart, it won't recognize the "Democratic Republic of the Congo". You have to misspell it as "Democratic Republic of the Cong". In this temporary episode, a bizarre workaround to get the final o back into the cell.
Transcript of the video:
Oh, hey, welcome back to the MrExcel netcast, this is Bill Jelen.
This is - I'm not going to number this episode because it's certainly a temporary thing.
But if you're running into this problem, I just want to have a solution out there.
So in Office 365, we have these new Map Charts you can, you know, map States or countries or provinces.
And there's a bug that popped up on the message board recently.
We see that we have 5 countries here but only 4 showing up on the map, but it turns out that the Democratic Republic of the Congo, for some reason, is not being recognized.
If you spell it correctly like that, you have to get rid of the final O, and without the final O, they appear.
What a horrible slight to our friends in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Alright, they have to spell their own country name wrong in order to show up in the map.
But I realized, well, you don't have to have it look wrong.
What we can do is Ctrol+1 to go into Format Cells, go to Custom and use the – oh, let's start with Text.
So we choose Text and then Custom field.
The @ sign means Text, and then we just say, after whatever text is in the column or in the cell, then just ‘o’ like that, which will cause it to appear correctly in the cell and also appear correctly in the map.
And hey, let's face it.
If you just get tired of typing the final O on a whole bunch of words that end in O, you could use this trick to, you know, save typing an extra space.
