bold tags inside code tags

Why Can't I use bold tags inside code tags...

Rich (BB code): 
=Vlookup(A1,B:C,2,FALSE)

inside the code tags, the bold tags are actually displayed as part of the formula...

it should look like this

=Vlookup(A1,B:C,2,FALSE)

But inside a code box..
