I have tried to block just a few cells with formulas in a sheet leaving free the rest of the cells to be filled by variables if needed, I followed the Microsoft title "Lock or unlock specific areas of a protected worksheet" with NO success I wonder what I did wrong this is what I did: I unprotected the sheet on the Review, then I selected the entire sheet, then I went to the FORMAT CELL FONT and in the PROTECTION tab unchecked the Locked box and then click OK, then I selected the cells to be protected and brought back the FORMAT CELLS window, then I checked the Locked box and click OK, back on the Review tab I clicked the Protected Sheet, finally in the ALLOW ALL USERS TO MODIFY RANGES put the list of the cells to be left free, then finished by accepting, BUT it did not work, I wonder what I did wrong?!!!!! Thanks in advance for your kind replies.

How to show all formulas in Excel?
Press Ctrl+` to show all formulas. Press it again to toggle back to numbers. The grave accent is often under the tilde on US keyboards.
If a cell contains a formula, what is protected is the formula, not the value. If you have "=A1" in a cell and you change the value of A1, the value in the protected cell will change accordingly.
