Best Way to Learn?

Hi All,

I would like to learn Excel much better than I know it now. I don't have it at home (I use google docs), and here at work they are using Windows 7 and 2010 suite.

I've rented a few of the "for Dummies" books, but I find it hard to follow since I can't practice what I'm reading.

Does anyone have suggestions as to what would be good courses to take or books to read? I would like to get better at Excel and learn VBA. I want to try to understand the properties behind what I am doing, not just answers to a particular problem.

I was thinking of taking a course or two at the local community college if it is affordable, but I don't know where to start.

Thanks!

Best way to learn Power Query?
Read M is for (Data) Monkey book by Ken Puls and Miguel Escobar. It is the complete guide to Power Query.
A good way is if you get assigned a project that requires it...

Even if you do not know how to do it at first, you will learn alot by researching how to complete your project. That is how I gained most of my limited knowledge :D

I was only really shown how to use excel in school, but ive found doing projects at work have improved my skills a great deal.

Each project is getting deaper and deaper with formulas and macros. Although I use MRexcel and google for help im still learning alot.

Practice makes perfect, plus if wouldnt hurt to get some professional training in. You can do a one/two day course depending on your current skills and knowledge, for like 300 bucks

A great place to start is the Microsoft Template Gallery. Just find a template for something that you can acutally use and go through it all until you have it down, then move on.

As for classes, www.growtheducation.com has some online classes. I think that they're relatively inexpensive, and as mentioned, there are plenty of books and free tutorials out there.
