Best shared environment

Hi there,

I have a workbook that I want others to be able to see and get updates in relatively real time. Every few seconds or maybe minute or two would be fine too...

The other users could only view the file in read only and probably would have no rights to edit the file anyway. They would view the data through a Dashboard of sorts.

I would love to use a shared workbook but I have too many tables and dynamic elements for excel to allow that.

Are there different environments I can use to make this happen?

Hello,

If no other users need to edit the data, then why would it need to be a shared workbook (or anything similar)? Couldn't you just store the workbook somewhere on your shared network? Then, if others access it while you are editing it, they will be prompted to open it as read-only.

Read-only is great and that would be the goal. However, during teleconference calls when people from different sites are viewing the information on the shared drive and the moderator is editing I want everyone to get updates. I mention every few seconds or every couple minutes

Ah I see. Well I have no love for shared workbooks, so I think your instincts there are correct. None of these are probably what you're looking for, but you could:
1. Use a screen-sharing service like Join.Me or GTM so that the moderator could just share his/her screen. It seems unnecessary for everyone's data to update simultaneously as long as everyone is looking at the same dashboard. This definitely seems preferable to a 60-second delay when edits are made.
2. Use googledocs. Most of the Excel functionality exists there as well.
3. Use a BI tool like Tableau
