Hi Guys,

I would be very grateful if anyone can help me with the best formula to use on this one.

I help coach with a junior football team and we have a squad of 15 players, but we can only select 10 on a match day, and there are 18 games during the season.

Whats the best way to put a spreadsheet together so i can make sure each players gets a similar amount of game time and also each takes a turn being rested.

I found a template online but as it didn't fit the same amount of players and games it had me very confused.

Very grateful if anyone can help.

So, every game you have 5 kids out of 15 that won't play. One easy way would to simply create three permanent groups of 5 kids (i.e. Group1, Group2, and Group3), and take turns resting them. If you go in order every time, they should have have the same play time, and same time to rest.

For example, rest schedule:
Game 1: Group1
Game 2: Group2
Game 3: Group3
Game 4: Group1
Game 5: Group2
Game 6: Group3
...

We see that you posted the same question on another Excel forum: https://www.excelforum.com/excel-fo...245010-player-rotation-for-football-team.html

While we do not prohibit Cross-Posting on this site, we do ask that you please mention you are doing so and provide links in each of the threads pointing to the other thread (see rule 13 here: http://www.mrexcel.com/forum/board-announcements/99490-forum-rules.html). what would be the best way to lay this out in a spreadsheet?
Any way you like, really. Whatever makes the most sense for you and your data.

For example, you could simply have a master list of all 15 people, and then list the Group Number in the next column next to their name.
Then for each game, you can list which group is off.
That's just one way, but there are others. There really is no "right" and "wrong" way here. Whatever works for you.
