Can someone please tell me: I get a notification of new LIKES. Let's say I get 3. I click on the notification, but it doesn't show me who gave the likes or what thread they came from. Is this on purpose?

Yep, moderators are aware of it and I don't think that it will be changing.
 
unfortunately LIKE is too short a word to search for, If you could you would find this subject very well covered. It doesn't work here. I can find most of mine as they get applied to the last few posts (normally) in my subscribed threads
