hello folks

first of all i wanted to thank you for being helpful many times before even without being registered here.

Ok, so lets go to the case. I am a member of Polish American Sports Association and we are having 5k run on may 3rd. Since we are non-profit organization and dont have tons of money we cant afford to rent chip equipment to count times for us. so i was thinking, could we use excel and barcode scanner to count time for us?

We have bib numbers ordered with tear off parts which include barcode, i found an formula to scan barcode with timestamp to excel so that part i have covered.

Everyone starts in the same time, so calculating times is easy after we have timestamp from barcode read, and i know it wont be exact in case we have 10 people at the finish line in same time but its still gonna be quicker to scan a barcode than put it in excel manually by keyboard what my older friends wanted to do.

my question is. can i get a formula to automatically put scans and times in right categories ?

we have 10 categories:

Women 1951-older

Boys 1999-2014

what i can do, while registration and giving out bib numbers we can select number of bibs to categories so we will be able to determine what category the person is by the number for example, category women 1951-older will get numbers from 50 to 100 men 1951-older will get numbers from 101-150 etc etc.

could you guys help me with getting macro to help me calculate the time from start to finish, put it in right categories and then once the run is over to quickly determine winners in each category? id appreciate it so much!
