averaging months

What im trying to do is average a row of numbers that represent the months. what im getting back as a result is: when i put a IFERROR(AVERAGE(A1:A5),0) FORMULA for Cells A1 thru A5 and i want my answer in CELL A7 i get one answer of the number i put in cell A1 not the adverage of that number if i only have a number in A1.

If i go down to cells C1 thru C5 and want a adverage in Cell C6 using the same IFERROR formula of those cells and i put a number in C1 it will adverage the number using the all the cells (divive by 5) as in Cell C6 would have 5 if you used in cells C1 Thru all 5s. average of 25/5 = 5.

so my question is why wont the same formula work in all the cells the same. i have reasurched it alot and i have no clue. I have tried everthing.
