Hi all,

Is anybody aware of a workaround or method for replicating the old AutoSave feature from previous versions of Excel?

I am using Excel 2007 and I need to set up a specific workbook to save at regular intervals - either overwriting the existing master copy or saving a backup copy to a specified directory.

This is distinct from the available AutoRecover option in Excel 2007, which only works where Excel is stopped suddenly (i.e. crash). I need a setup whereby, even if a user closes a workbook, is prompted to save and chooses "No", I can still see a saved copy from 10 minutes ago (even if that was since the last manual save) AutoRecover purges these backups when the workbook is closed manually with the option to save declined.

I've seen the Autosafe add-in on Jan Karel Pieterse's website which looks to do exactly what I want; however, the underlying code is locked for viewing and therefore I can't validate exactly what it's doing (nor if it's doing anything 'untoward') and thus don't feel comfortable unleashing potentially rogue code on a number of workstations on the network. I'm sure we can all appreciate the risks with doing this?

Just wondering if anybody had any suggestions as to how to get the old AutoSave feature from prior versions of Excel replicated in 2007? Could it be done via VBA in a module specific to the workbook in question (not sure if it's possible to use timer events in Excel; if this was Access I'd be laughing )

Thanks!
