Hi all,

I am trying to figure out if there is a possibility to find a solution to the following example:

Let’s say that we have a table with input data including words and numbers. In that case that I need is for following up engineering cases. The problem is when you added a new case and it should be done in such a way to make this procedure easier. In more detail, the table is from A to K and from 1 to 10,000. The first row from A1 to K1 is a standard and freeze row that was also set with filter. The rest below rows are for input data, some columns with data validation (list) and other by writing.

To move on the main question, A1 is fruit and the first column A2 to A10000 was set with data validation (list) and their available options to choose are APPLE, BANANA and ORANGE. The B2 is fruit case and the second column B2 to B10000 are simple cells. Is there any solution to set automatically the corresponding fruit case dependable by fruit input. For example:

  • A2 is Apple and when cell set to that specific option then B2 to take automatically Apple-001
  • Also for B3 Orange then C3 to be set as Orange-001
  • BUT when you choose again to A4 Apple then B4 to take Apple-002 (in ascending number)!
The logic should be somewhere to be save the last Fruit Case and after when you choose the same fruit then new case should be issued as 001 + 1.
Always in the second column (B2:B10000) the cell format will be like FRUIT and three digit number as FRUIT-000.

Please inform me if you have additional questions.

Thank you very much for your time to reading this.

Dimitris
