Auto-Populate Weekday Based on Date

Hello! I'm trying to have column B automatically update the day of the week (ddd) based on the date entered in A2. I've played around with the WEEKDAY formula, but I think I'm missing something. I was able to get the day to populate correctly using =TEXT(A2,"ddd") but it populates days when the date field is left blank.

Is there a way to populate the day if the date is entered in column A, but leave it blank if not entered?

Any help is appreciated!
