Looking at the sample work sheet by that name, I am intrigued by the formatting of the top row, in which the cells themselves are canted away from vertical. How is that done?

Which worksheet are you referring to ??
and at a guess, it sounds like you mean Italics...Right click the row or cells / Format Cells / Font / Font Style / Italic
Right-Click on your Cell or Range > Format Cells... > Alignment > Orientation
Then either enter a number of degrees or click on the graphic that looks like half of an analog clock face to select an angle.
EDIT: The directions above will incline the text. I'm not aware of a way to make the Cells themselves any shape other than rectangular.
Is that what you saw? It could possibly be done with Shape Objects instead of Worksheet Cells.
