ATTENDANCE IN EXCEL

Hello everyone. I am a teacher seeking to create an excel attendance file for my students. I want them to be able to scan their Ids using a barcode scanner or some android app, and I want that information to be automatically entered into the file either as a present or as the time of the scan. Please help. I dont even know where to start.

Hi Tina,

This idea is well catered for viz. a raft of commercial products aimed at clocking in/out of office/school etc.
These are expensive---not for schools who normally have money for this sort of infrastructure. However, I suspect this not to be the case with your school.

The problem you will have is that home-made devices created by purchasing cheap scanners and exporting the data will be easy to circumvent: simple barcodes are easy to scan, exchange and I can see school kids scanning their friends in etc.
The best approach nowadays is to utilize mobile phone apps.

For students that don't have a phone, maybe get them to sign in on paper---they'll be so few of these, it will be manageable.
