Assigning Value to a module

Somebody built this database and I am trying to tweak it. Anyway, I have a form object that allow the user to enter a date value, and in the module, there is a variable that I want to read the value entered in the form object. How can I set the variable in the module to read the value entered in the form object? Thanks for any inputs.
