Hi, I'm working on some excel training for my colleagues.
I'm going to take a different approach, rather than teaching specific hints, tips and formulas, I will focus on how to go about solving excel problems in general. I.e. if you have something you don't know, or something you want to do. How you would go about solving it?
The first step of course, is JFGI (just ****ing google it) I'm still amazed that so many intelligent people dont have the confidence to do this and try to solve problems for themselves.
Beyond that, are there any websites which deal with how to aproach excel problems? I.e. breaking down into what you need to know, hints and tips on what search terms to use in google, etc.
Secondly, any useful resources with large amounts of information on excel that you use? So far I've got this forum (of course) techonthenet and Pearson Consulting (www.cpearson.com).
Finally, any good useful hints and tips you guys use? Major errors in thinking and or approach that beginners make?
A good example recently was a friend who was treating excel like a text table, with text instead of number for things like "2.1million" or "95.01%" and notes inside the cells. She was really struggling to make even the most basic formulas like addition or division work. Once I convinced her to put only numbers in number cells, she made drastic improvements.
Thanks in advance.
