Applied Steps Update

I have a query with a huge number of applied steps. To edit it takes enormous amounts of time. Just to change the name of a step will take several minutes. I have tried just copying all the steps into a text editor and edit manually but one false move and screw it up. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to solve this. I thought maybe the number of records in the data would help so I limited that greatly but it really doesn't help that much. Other ideas?

Excel Facts

Remove leading & trailing spaces
Save as CSV to remove all leading and trailing spaces. It is faster than using TRIM().
I am constantly editing and tailoring my power queries, well after the desired results have been established.

Not knowing your level of Power Query knowledge, here are some things to keep in mind:
Remove Columns/Filter Rows as soon as possible. It helps lighten the load.
Only keep the last Reorder Columns step, delete the rest.
Blend as many steps together as possible. Example being, change column names as a part of expanding a merged query, as opposed to naming it at a later time.
Splitting queries up also helps create a placebo effect, so you can see a smaller number of steps as well as see results load quicker than if it was all in one.
