First of all. Hi everybody. Im new here. I need information about inventory tracking in Excel.

I am an accountant at a candies manufacturer in Puerto Rico. The company is pretty new. Right now where are not tracking any kind of inventory and I am worried because employees can steal easily and nobody notices it.

Is there any program or way I could track our kind of inventory (Raw material, WIP and Finished Goods in Excel? We were thinking about using a bar code system but we are not really sure.

Any ideas would be really appreciated.

Thanks

What is the shortcut key for Format Selection?
Ctrl+1 (the number one) will open the Format dialog for whatever is selected.
Hello,
Innovatory for any business should most likely be handled by a database and while you can create a database in Excel your better off in Access IMHO. Excel will give you the ability to build functions do calculations and customize reports, but it's much easier and more adaptable if you’re using a database.

Pick up an Access DB beginners book and get to know the program, you can easily incorporate a scanner and the ability to print bar code labels. There are a ton of programs for sale and if you'd like to build it from scratch Access will let you.

Welcome to the Board!

For Inventory Management, Access or any database is probably a much better and robust route.

Do a Google search for: "create a barcode compatible access database" and you'll get plenty of results and even some templates.

Although a new business with an accountant might have the operating capital to purchase an off-the-shelf package.

Hope that helps,

Smitty

You're an accountant?

What are you keeping your books on? Many (most?) accounting packages have inventory tracking systems/add-ons.

Why re-create the wheel when canned stuff is largely out there? :)
