I have to say, Sharepoint must be one of the most frustrating application I have ever used, particularly the formatting of fonts.

I have a page with 2 ADVANCED CONTENT EDITOR webpart. I set both fonts style to TAHOMA and font sie to 2. But yet, the characters/letters do not look the same in both! ONe of them looked really unusually big and even if I adjust its size to 1, it is still bigger than the other one.

It just does not make any sense.

If there is anybody who can advice me what am I doing wrong, it will be highly appreciated.

Hi Dennis,

Sorry, I did not notice you posted here until now.

Honestly I do not even know if I am using styles. I do not see anything that says styles. There is one dropdown that has the selection, NORMAL, HEADING 1, HEADING 2, etc. Is that what you mean? If so, then yes they are both NORMAL.

If I highlight the texts, they have exactly the same, NORMAL, TAHOMA, size 4. But once I save it and exit editting mode, the other one is way smaller.

Are you using Sharepoint Designer? I'm wondering if there is some kind of BaseFont property on one that isn't on the other.

If it is SD, go into Code view and check near the top of the page. In the Head section there may be links to style sheets. They will read something like link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="somethingorother.css"
Alternatively, in the body tag there may be a basefont or a font property. Check that they are the same for both pages.

Thanks Dennis. I am not yet sure if I understand your instruction but I will try to figure it out.

In summary, I just want the text to be exactly how I type them when I am on edit mode. So my problem is not only that both pages differ, but the fact that what I get when I save the page is not the one I see just before saving.

It is really annoying in Sharepoint that I type something that looks good when I am on edit mode and then suddenly turn out totally differnet once I saved and exit edit mode. I maybe a total newb in Sharepoint but this sounds like a bug in this application in all sense of the word.

Cheers mate.

I'd be annoyed too.
I haven't used Sharepoint myself but have quite a lot of Web experience, which is why I made those suggestions. Found this page on the MS site. It looks like a general overview, but may be helpful or lead you to some more detail.

Hi Dennis,

You mentioned something about sharepoint designer, I read somewhere that you can do a lot of things with this, so now I am curious.

How do I know if I have access to this?

Thanks

I think you have to buy it -- although this link indicates that if you use Sharepoint 2007 it's a free download. Some other stuff in that page that you might find useful too.
SharePoint Designer is the successor to Frontpage, but better.

Thanks Dennis.

I actually I do not even know how to check if I already have it. Anyway I will check with out IT admin.

Have you used it? If so, what can be done with it?

Presently I have an issue when creating a document library. When users upload a file, the webpart creates a column "NAME" which is populated automatically using the filename.

My issue with above is that the filename could be very long, which sometimes occupies 2 or 3 rows thereby distorting the height of the webpart.

I think the solution is to create a calculated column, based on the filename...something like

=LEFT(NAME, 10)

Then use this column to show in the webpart.

But when I tried to create a calculated column, I can not find this NAME column. All I can see is TITLE (which is not the FILENAME), MODIFIED DATE and MODIFIED BY.

I have somehow similar issue as this user:

Can these be solved if I get this SHAREPOINT DESIGNER?
