Alt shortcuts in 'Open' Backstage don't work properly

By default, when in the 'Open' Backstage, pressing Alt overlays shortcuts over buttons. In particular, '1', '2', '3'... are overlaid on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd... most recent workbook.

Somehow (I think related to the 'Advanced>Display>Quickly access this number of Recent Workbooks' option, which I had previously set to 25 but is now unchecked), instead of '1', '2', '3'..., 'Y4', 'Y5', 'Y6'... are overlaid. Furthermore, pressing 'Y4' for example doesn't actually open the workbook, I have to then press Enter to open the workbook.

Can I reset something to fix this?
