Adjust Row Height & Column Width in Inches

I am trying to size my rows and columns by inches, instead of pixels and cannot get it to work.

I went to Options>Advanced>Display and changed the default to inches. When I type in these options I get an error message....1/4, 1/4 in, .25 in.

Error message - Your entry cannot be used. Am integer or decimal number may be required.

Thoughts or suggestions?

I think that only changes the ruler units. Row height is always set in pixels, and column width in characters.

That is too bad. Any idea how many pixels are in an inch? Or characters in an inch?

Sorry, points, not pixels, and a point is 1/72 inch.

The width of a character is the width of one specific character (0, maybe? -- don't recall) is the font face, size, and style used for style Normal, then rounded to the nearest multiple of 8 pixels (not points). Excel emphatically does not pretend to be a CAD program.
