Hi,

Is it possible to address a Column in Power Query M-code with a dynamic ID-number instead of a static name string?

Excel Facts

Using Function Arguments with nested formulas
If writing INDEX in Func. Arguments, type MATCH(. Use the mouse to click inside MATCH in the formula bar. Dialog switches to MATCH.
This would pick up the column name of the 3rd column. Does that work for you?
Code:
Names = Table.ColumnNames(Source){2}

Potential example of adding new column which is 5+third column, both directly using name "c" and dynamically based on it being in 3rd column

Code:
let Source = Excel.CurrentWorkbook(){[Name="Table1"]}[Content],
Name = Table.ColumnNames(Source){2},
#"Added Custom" = Table.AddColumn(Source, "Custom", each [c]+5),
#"Added Custom1" = Table.AddColumn(#"Added Custom", "Custom.1", each Record.Field(#"Added Custom"{_},Name)+5)
in  #"Added Custom1"
