I want to add "Microsoft Excel XX.X Object Library" to Excel. I have office 2003 so pretty sure XX.X is 11.0.

But no such reference appears in the reference list. Googling for help gives this

In VS, right click the references > Add Reference... > COM tab
Then select "Excel 11.0 Object Library" to add its PIA into your project,

Sounds like good instructions, but I have no idea was "VS" is, a right click on 'References' seems to do nothing
and I can't see any COM tab.Can anyone help me out with further instructions ? Thanks !

Excel Facts

Create a Pivot Table on a Map
If your data has zip codes, postal codes, or city names, select the data and use Insert, 3D Map. (Found to right of chart icons).
VS stands for Visual Studio. The Object Library is probably already available.

In the Excel Visual Basic Editor, on the menu, click Tools >> References...

I have done that, but I see nothing that matches "Microsoft Excel....". I presume that is what it should be listed under ?

In Excel 2016 U.S. stand-alone the 'Microsoft Excel 16.0 Object Library' is part of the file EXCEL.exe. And yes, Excel 2003 was version 11.xx.x.

What is the reason you need to add the library? Is it for language support? Are you running into problems with your code that could be caused by a missing library?

I did run across a tutorial for automating embedded charts that instructs the reader to add the Excel object library. Those instructions were pointed at users of Visual Studio .Net: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/li...c_xl_manipulatecharts_usingautomationtocreate
