Adding an Asterisk to a Excel Column

How do you add an asterisk to the begining of a Excel cell column? or replace the zeros with a asterisk? For example, data come into the Excel cells as 01222 but I want it like this:*12222
 
Assuming you have the number entered as text in A1,

=Substitute(A1,"0","*",1)

will replace the first instance of the character "0" with the character, "*".
