Active cell box disappears when linking to a different tab

Here's how this has been going down in a lot of my workbooks:
  1. I hit "=" in a cell I want to create a link in
  2. I hit "Ctrl" + "Page Up" to get to the tab with the cell that I want to link to
  3. I hit the arrow keys to navigate to the cell that I want but there is no active cell box. The reference in the name box will change as I tab around, so I can check what cell I'm, but that doesn't help much.

Anyone have any ideas on why this is happening? I think it might only be happening in my larger files, so that could be part of the problem.

Thanks

Formula for Yesterday
Name Manager, New Name. Yesterday =TODAY()-1. OK. Then, use =YESTERDAY in any cell. Tomorrow could be =TODAY()+1.
