Accessing objects after digital signature

Greetings,

I'm hoping there's an easy solution to this question. I have some worksheets where external work reports are being attached as objects (not linked, just attached and displayed as icons). However, we just realized that once the worksheet becomes electronically signed, if you attempt to open that external file it will invalidate the worksheet because it sees the document as being edited. Is there any way around this where you can open the object and see the data but keep the digital signature?

Thanks in advance!

Does the VLOOKUP table have to be sorted?
No! when you are using an exact match, the VLOOKUP table can be in any order. Best-selling items at the top is actually the best.
Or perhaps the better option might be to have a button (or some control) that would allow the supervisor to lock all cells from further changes once the report has been approved? The purpose of the digital signature was just to prevent further changes from being made once the report was finalized/approved.

Granted I am a newbie but would it be possible to do the same thing with a popup message box asking for credentials? I would be interested in hearing what the experts here have to say.
