Access Security on shared drive

Hi,

I have an access DB on a shared drive and I used the wizard to set up security.

I chose the option to NOT have shortcuts set up but rather have everyone access the DB file directly.

The wizard also created a backup file and a secured.mdw file which contains all workgroup information.

When I access the file from my machine, it asks me for user name and password. Everything's peachy.

When I try to access the file from my co-worker's machine, it tells me that I, or rather, my co-worker, doens't ahve the authority to even look at the file and it never even gets to the username and password screen.

I searched the posting and found one similar thread.

We have also recently switched from NT to XP so I'm not sure if that has any impact or not.

Anyhow, I'm hoping someone can help cuz our tech department here is useless.

Thank you,
G

Hullo, and welcome to the board! The problem here, I believe, is that your co-worker does not have the same MDW that was used to secure the db.

Place the MDW in the same path as the MDB, and a shortcut on your co-workers desktop that uses a similar connect string:
Code:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\MSACCESS.EXE" "network\path\to\YourDB.MDB" /WRKGRP "network\path\to\YourSecure.MDW"

That should get you where you need to be.
