any help is appreciated,

Excel Facts

How can you turn a range sideways?
Copy the range. Select a blank cell. Right-click, Paste Special, then choose Transpose.
I think we need more information.

You can filter Access tables easily by right clicking in the field to filter.

You will then get various options.

ok the table consists of two columns one called names and the other one is called ext (apply this to a telephone directory names of the people and their extensions)

an example

name ext

matthew 1111
James 2222

and so on

what i want to do is have some kind of interface that will search the database (or table) and bring back the information of a particular user or number (some users dont have an extension and will have the number 0000) for example if i search for matthew i want it to display matthew and his extension number, and vice versa if i search for extension 2222 i want it to display james and his extension, can this be done in access?

any help is appreciated,

oh and maybe i should point out that this will be going round to various people so it MUST have a UI and not just a right click and filter,

without users IT managment would be so easy!

How about using a form view and creating a toolbar to let users do filter by form?
That is more user friendly than right clicking, and has worked for us.

There already is a toolbar for that.

Records>Filter>etc

Sorry, I didn't explain that very well.
In order to try and make it user friendly (and limit what people will do) we created a custom toolbar with only the options we needed on it.
