I cannot find compact and repair. I have used encode/decode but that is a lot less convenient than the old compact and repair. I ran into a situation today where it says the owner of the db has to encode / decode and it won't let me. This is a database I created from scratch so why I'm getting that error would be an additional question.

I frequently copy databases for each month where I copy say October, rename it November, delete October's data, and import November's data. If I do this without encoding, the database will simply double in size even though I've deleted Oct data. I used to just compact in older versions of Access but this option no longer appears to be available.

Please help.

Thanks

Excel Facts

Links? Where??
If Excel says you have links but you can't find them, go to Formulas, Name Manager. Look for old links to dead workbooks & delete.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! I looked all over the place for that and tried Access help typing in "compact and repair" and still couldn't find it.

The link down. Here is how to do it (for those of use who were stubborn enough to still be using XP in 2010!! lol):

  1. Click the Microsoft Office button (that logo on top left corner)
  2. From the Office menu, choose "Manage", then "Compact and Repair Database"
(Man... i'm really not looking forward to learning how to do everything again on Vista. I hope it's worth it.)
