I hope the lounge is the proper area to post this.

If a poster wants to develop a form that may take several hours to build, does Mr. Excel frown on actually agreeing on payment for such work?

Thank you.

Do you mean that you're going to build a form for a board member who's agreed to pay you for your time?

If you're trolling the board for business, then I'd see a problem with it (big problem), especially if you don't acknowledge that Bill (Jelen aka Mr Excel) has a consulting business (and that's what pays for the board).

But if you've gone to the trouble to develop rapport with an OP to the point that they want you to continue in a paid fashion, then I can't see anyone frowning on it.

I hope the lounge is the proper area to post this.

Unless someone thinks otherwise, I'll move it to the "About the Board" forum. Seems like a better place for it. ;)

I may have built a rapport with a poster. I don't know if there will be an offer to pay me for my time or not, but I wanted to check in case this were to happen.

I would NEVER troll the board for work. Hadn't even thought of it. This board has ALWAYS pulled my tail out of a jam. I would NOT repay that by stealing clients from Bill and taking food out of his mouth. I owe him and the board a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid.

My goal is to actually get good enough to approach Bill and see if I have what it takes to work for him - but I'm a long way off from that.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

hmm - approach me :-P
Serious! I'm the project manager, I choose who we work with. And I work with a range of ability - I've helped programmers expand their skills. The main requirements are
1. you are past using the recorder as your main tool
2. you are willing to learn
3. you can take criticism/suggestions

I am currently working with a new programmer.. less than a month and he's so willing to learn that his programmer skills have improved greatly. Just takes a nudge in the right direction, which I'm happy to do. Love working with someone who loves to learn!

Star!

Sorry for the delay getting back to you. I've been off of the Board for a couple of days, and am on two major projects right now.

OK. Yes. The recorder is not my main tool. Yes, I am willing to learn. Yes, I can take criticism / suggestions / and even an occasional chewing out.

So...What next?
