Hi,

Can anyone point me in the direct of a good book that gives an overview of objects and methods that explains the hierarchy.

My frustration is that I have a book that starts something like this. "Pivot Cache is thoroughly expalined in the windows help, so I am not gonig to expalin that, so here are lines of code with no conceptual context underpinning it" on looking on MShelp if I type in pivotcache I get links to millions of thinks that begin PivotCache.something extra.

The frustration is that nothing expalins what pivot cache and it is very frustrations its like saying:

frudumsh. on toast
frudumsh. with cheese
frudumsh. bacon and egg

What you dont know what frudumsh is?????

Sorry if that's a bit of a simplistic explanation, but nothing appears to explain the basics and with out a solid foundation I will just be repeating code without understanding it.

PS not just pivot cache that was an example.

Excel Facts

Will the fill handle fill 1, 2, 3?
Yes! Type 1 in a cell. Hold down Ctrl while you drag the fill handle.
Apologies, just frustration.

I have worked out that Pivotcache is a copy of the data used to generate the pivottable that is stored in the computers virtual memory.

Though this is not explained only talked around

I tend to use MSDN Developer Reference: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff846392(v=office.14).aspx

I like to search it; so I would use for your example a search term "PivotCache Object". The top few results (using Google) does more than enough to explain the object. I may also type "PivotCache Object Members" and that will reveal all properties and methods.

Also, do you use the Object Browser? From within the VBE hit F2. Next in the search box type "pivotcache" and hit Enter.

As far as a book goes; I think the best developers reference is Excel 2007 VBA Programmers Reference by Wrox.

Good luck! :)
