a for tick

Hi, I have an excel document where if I enter "a" it turns into a tick. What do I need to enter so the entry show as 'wip'

Do you mean that if you enter the letter "a" you want to change that "a" to "wip"? If so, in which column are you entering the "a"?

Hi Mumps,
When I enter a it comes up as a tick, which is right. if I enter 4 I get the playing sign
If I type WIP, what I get is very odd
Maybe I can remove the format to be able to type WIP

Sounds like that column has the font set to Webdings

Check the font type of the cell. If the font is "Webdings", the letter "a" will return a checkmark. Any other letter will return a different character. You can change the font to something like "Ariel" and then enter "WIP". If you must enter a letter "a" and return "WIP", that can be done with a macro. If that is what you want, please let me know and I will suggest one. I would need to know in which column you will be entering the "a".
