Hi
I am reading the article below and it say that to create 3 d formula, you need to do this

='[workbook]'worksheet'!$A$1 (single quota)

I tried that and my formula was

=[test1.xlsx]Sheet1!$A$1

So I am in test2.xlsx and I want to link to cell A1 in file test1.xlsx. I just type = then clicked on cell A1 in test1 and excel entered the formula above. I am using excel 2013. Why excel did not enter single quota?

Excel Facts

Copy formula down without changing references
If you have =SUM(F2:F49) in F50; type Alt+' in F51 to copy =SUM(F2:F49) to F51, leaving the formula in edit mode. Change SUM to COUNT.
It depends on the sheet name. With a name like Sheet1, the quotes aren't needed. If you have a sheet name like March 2018 (where you have spaces in the name), they are needed and the formula will look like:

='[test1.xlsx]March 2018'!$A$1

You'll also need the quotes if the workbook name has spaces in it.
