Hi everyone. Can anybody tell me what a + sign after the = indicates? I've seen it several times before. Can't think of an example with it, but it's followed by sometimes a function argument or a sheet name. Not sure if this is some type of add-in that lets you write formulas like this or if this is actual excel functionality. Thanks.

How to change case of text in Excel?
Use =UPPER() for upper case, =LOWER() for lower case, and =PROPER() for proper case. PROPER won't capitalize second c in Mccartney
Hi

The + symbol is usually redundant in this context. If you have the = symbol, you can usually leave out the + symbol and get the same result.

thanks for replying so quickly to the both of you - so you're saying =+today() and =today() is the same thing? why would someone write the formula like that? and wsjackman, if it's just old lotus 123, then we can just assume that if it reads =+ then we can just omit the + and read the regular formula, right?

why would someone write the formula like that?

My guess would be that if they are used to Lotus 1-2-3, then they are probably in the habit of it.
